Tylose powder (also known as Tylopur powder) is a fine white powder used in the making of modeling and flower pastes such as fondant and gum paste.

A must buy for cake decorators who frequently work with sugar pastes, tylose powder can be added to fondant to quickly turn it into gum paste. It will also help to stiffen and harden fondant and gum paste quickly. It can even be used to make edible glue to attach pearls and edible decorations to fondant cakes.

  • Contains 2 ounces (55 grams) of tylose powder.
  • Packaged in a plastic jar with a screw top lid.
  • Certified Kosher by the Hartford Kashrut Commission.

To transition your fondant into gum paste:

Add 2 -3 tsp of Tylose powder to 1lb of fondant. In areas with dry humidity add less Tylose. In areas with high humidity add more Tylose. Knead it in well. For best results, we recommend letting the sugar paste rest overnight.

How to make edible glue:

Add 1/4 tsp. of tylose to two Tablespoons of warm water and whisk with a fork to break up any lumps (it's ok if there are a few lumps left behind).

Refrigerate overnight or until it has a syrup-like consistency.

How to make homemade gum paste:

Lightly beat 1 egg white. Add 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted) to the beaten egg white, and beat until soft and shiny peaks form, the consistency should be similar to royal icing.

Add 2 heaping teaspoons of tylose powder, the mixture will thicken immediately, mix on high speed for 10 to 15 seconds.

Sprinkle work surface with powdered confectioners sugar and turn gum paste mixture out onto work surface.

Keep kneading in more confectioners sugar until you can pinch the sugar paste without it sticking to your fingers. Gum paste should not be sticky.

Rub a bit of white vegetable shortening on your hands and work paste thoroughly before storing.  Seal in a plastic ziplock bag and store in the refrigerator when not in use.
